Pass-Through Embodiment (PTE) on IEEE VR 2025

I am pleased that our work has been accepted for publication in the ๐—œ๐—˜๐—˜๐—˜ ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ฉ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜‡๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—–๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—š๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐˜€ (๐—ง๐—ฉ๐—–๐—š). Additionally, our paper received an ๐—›๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—•๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—”๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ ๐Ÿ†.

Our proposed method ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜€-๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ด๐—ต ๐—˜๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ (๐—ฃ๐—ง๐—˜) uses per-eye depth maps from modern Head-Mounted Displays with video pass-through to integrate users’ real bodies without additional hardware. This was evaluated in a study with 40 participants, where PTE significantly enhances presence and embodiment without affecting performance, cognitive load, or VR sickness, despite minor visual artifacts. Therefore, PTE offers a practical ๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ฟ-๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐˜€ for self-representation in virtual reality.
